JUJU 23 SETS A NEW MCC BOWLING RECORD…

Nazeer Hafijee struck six times, returning his career-best figures of 6 for 20 to swing the momentum back in Marlboro's favor and Winning the game against Witwatersrand this past weekend. ‘Juju 23’ missed out on his hat-trick however he got the Indian hat-trick version in his 2nd spell..3 RUNS IN 3 BALLS :) LOL

There were many other highlights Zameer awesum with the ball as well with figures of 2 for 21 and damm he really should us how to get down on it in the field… MANDOZA u my HERO boy!! :)
Farhad had a blast with the bat with shots…opps he prefers calling them strokes all around the field scoring a brilliant 77, and Naseer fired a really quick 43 from just 27 balls after being run-out.

MY TAKE ON OUR LAST MATCH..

The wicket gave an appearance of being hairy and slippery with the overnight rain, thanks to our groundsman we were able to get a game.
Mr Makda napaak again lost the toss and banyas put us in2 bat.
Our openers took the field, an awesum steady start from Rayhaan and Chodree with 35 after 30 over’s..YEAH 35 AFTER 30 OVERS :) Their struggles never cease with only 1 ambition, to spend all day at the crease. With the loss of Chodree in came Mambo "SUPERSIZE", there's no one like Mambo.. he's broken every batting law, his backlift defies gravity :)hehehehe
His swing with those HUGE ARMS blew the clouds away and game on..Mambo at number 3 is a dasher, he seldom prods and poke, when he gets into action, he has a fine array of strokes..
Then beware the slogger Jogee ‘VOORA’, not content with 1 or 2, when he arrives at the crease then only six will do. Up next our Skipper Mr Makda, his a real stone-waller, he knows what he's about, if you let him settle in, it's hard to get him out!
Let’s now move onto our last man, I hope this will not shock, Muhammed Bhana..He doesn't mind if he's last man in, as long as he gets a knock LOL you girls know what I mean :)
Pity we only get to bat 40 over’s, unfortunately we got2 take the field..

Our paceman Mambo again, Zaks, and Molana pure speed from 1st to last,
My boy do be careful; their balls are hard and fast...reminds you of Vin Diesel from Fast and Furious
As the balls gets older and looses shine, the medium pacer Jogee,Kadwa Junior,Makda his balls swing either way, He's really most persistent and can keep it up all day!
1 has to watch for our off-spinner Bhana, his another awkward chap, If you leave him half an opening, he will slip 1 through the gap! Girls be very careful!!
And last we can’t forget our wicketkeeper Mohammed Seedat, he's full of flair and dash,if the batsman raises there heel, he'll whip them off in a flash…
These guys are having a blast..WHEN THERE'S MEAT A MAN MUST EAT!! Okay you guys know what i mean...

MESSAGE FROM SAFWAAN TO SA6 PLAYERS & LOVED 1’s

Salaams One & All…

Hope you all are well and recovering from a good weekend and it’s not that blue of a Monday… :)
Anyway I have an announcement to make that with immediate effect I will be playing the rest of the season with the SA 4 side…
This decision to play for SA 4 has been a long and hard one to make…

I was approached at the beginning of the season by the executive committee as well as the captain of the SA4 side, Farhaad Essop to play for them…
I request sometime to think about it and evaluate my fitness as well as if I was able to cut it in a much more competitive league and it was decided that after my third game of the season I would give my answer…

After much thought I realized that I am not getting any younger and that I can’t run as much as I use to and after each game I have aches & pains in places I never knew could ache or pain…LOL
Guys I’m getting old…And I realized I can’t let this opportunity pass me by…Here is a chance to prove my talent not only to my Club but myself as well…while I still have it…

So I would like to take this opportunity to thank the executives of the club & Farhaad Essop for giving me this opportunity but most of all I would like to thank all my team mates in the SA6 side for all your support & commitment week in & out…I have had the most awesome time with all you guys and in the short time that I have played with you guys we have become more then team mates we have become friends…and I hope….Sorry let me re phrase that, and we will continue to be friends…

Avi & Moosa keep the sms and funny comments coming…and guys I love the comments that you guys send to & fro on Facebook beautiful :)

Avi my man keep it real as always…you are an awesome all rounder almost as good as Kallis but not quite :)

Moosa Ganto…our other import from Middleburg….It was a great honour for me to play with you…you are an awesome cricketer and with age on your side you will be even better then you are now…one thing you need to work on is to relax a bit with the opposition, don’t let them get you…for some reason I think we will be playing together soon…LOL

Moms don’t think it’s over boet coz even thou we playing in different leagues the bets are still on each game to see who scores more runs…currently you owe me like 3 suppers…LOL
I will collect don’t worry…

Riyo & Ahmedoo my two great wicket keepers…if it not for your guys encouragement and advice I don’t think I’d be the player I am…Lots of times in many games I have taken your guys advice on which line to bowl resulting in many wickets…I really owe you guys Thanks…Ahmedoo in all my years I have never seen anyone move like you…every game we go to the opposition look at you in awe…no one can believe it…Man you have my respect…

Abed it’s up to you boss you have to take over boet…You have the talent…Don’t ever doubt that…you have what it takes to be a great fast bowler…pace, bounce and being tall helps u along…and who knows you will replace me sooner rather then later in the SA4 team…work hard boy you’ll get remember always be positive…

Maroef even thou we haven’t played that much together due to unforeseen medical conditions from behind…LOL
You have though me that you have to be quick running in between the wickets if not you will run me out…LOL

Ismail “Jones” Loonat if there is an ou for commitment it’s you Ismail…Week in week out you are there…giving it your best even if means being the 12th man writing the score…your commitment to the game of cricket is priceless…you really enjoy your cricket…

To the new guys Rashaad Ally & Baker even thou we haven’t played much together I really see great things from both of you…Rashaad my man you gona be an awesome bowler…remember pace is not everything but if you have the right line & length the sculpts are their for the taking…my only advice is work hard at your game…Baker, our foreign import…dude I haven’t seen anyone in the club who can turn the ball like you in a long time…This is probably the influence of the ever turning up or down of the Zim inflation rate…LOL

Archie The great one the legends of Marlboro…without any doubt you truly are a legend and I have learnt a lot from you…we go out there to give it our best, be it we win or lose as long as we gave it our best…It really was awesome to play with you and I hope to do so again sometime…

Rashaadi what can I say but it really has been a privilege to play both under you as well as with you…In the last two seasons with the club I have taken so much from the game because of you…Your qualities as a captain…Dude you are a naturally born leader & a good one…You have a great cricketing mind and read the game well…not many players can do that…But your consistent encouragement and positivity have helped me along especially in situations where I have doubted myself, where my confidence was shot, you were always there to pick me up and I really owe you a lot of thanks…But the most I am thankful to you for is my GORGEOUS WIFE Na’eemah…it was through your persistence and a bit of nagging(LOL) that I met her…meeting Na’eemah has really completed me.…Jazakallah boss and don’t forgot the prawns are still waiting…LOL

The biggest thanks must defiantly go my sidekick, my other half or most commonly my gorgeous wife Na’eemah…My decision was greatly influenced by you…your advice and un biased opinion really helped me…I thank you for your great support every week…your presence at every game means so much to me…I love you so much my darling…Really I can’t thank you enough for everything…Mwah…

Guys I really really really am SAD to be leaving the SA6 side…we have built great friendships and I don’t want to lose that…I hope you guys can support me in my decision and please I need all the encouragement & advice I can get so please guys keep them coming…I would like to take this opportunity to ask MAAF from each and everyone of you…if I have said or did anything to have hurt you or your feelings I ask that you please make me maaf…I also ask that you please remember me in your dua’s and I wish and hope I can play with you guys again…

For the last time signing off…

Your Captain,

SA4 MARLBORO CC VS SECUREDATA KWATENG

As we arrive at Matchday 4 of the current season, the players are finally into the swing of things and raring to make this season a success. The fitness levels are slowly increasing, and players are starting to find their form.
AVINASH GOVEN EARNED HIS 1ST XI CALL UP AFTER STERLING PERFORMANCES IN SA6. Mia and Hamza completed the line up

MCC: 235/8 in 40 overs.

A sterling opening partnership of 74 between Zain and Ebrahim Kadwa in a matter of 13.2 overs set the platform for the innings. Kadwa took charge scoring 38 in a mere 44 balls before being bowled by a superb in-swinging yorker by Navesh (Zameer's bru-in-law or something?!?) Up stepped Zain, after playing second fiddle to Kadwa, taking the attack to the bowlers with some superb strokes. He even played on the front foot, which is a good sign for our Chairman. Zain ended on 65 which earned him the man of the match award. Knocks by Eboo(17) [2nd wicket partnership 50] Farhad (23) [3rd wicket stand of 42], one hit wonders Nasier and Hamza, followed by Zameer and Avi all contributed to the steady run-rate.
With a storm lurking, the bowlers had their work cut out to keep the run rate down as well as try and make in roads in the Securedata batting line up. Once again they didn't disappoint. Opening pairing of Nasier and Zameer kept the batsmen honest, with Juju , Avi, and Kadwa keeping good lines. When the clouds did open up, Securedata were 65/4 in 20 overs, handing MCC their second victory of the season. Juju, Kadwa, Nasier and Avi all with one wicket each, and Zameer as miserly as ever.
All looks good going forward from here. All the players are acknowledging their roles in the side and staking claims to remain part of the first XI. We need to mantain this winning formula and continue working hard to improve our game.

After our first loss Kadwa suggested: ''Never wish for something, cos you might get it and won't be able to handle it''
We wished for SA4, and we got it. We need to mantain the high standards we set, and who knows... SA3 may await us!!

Sachin Tendulkar has set a new record for the most runs scored in Test cricket

Sachin Tendulkar has set a new record for the most runs scored in Test cricket, overtaking the mark set by West Indies' Brian Lara.
Tendulkar, 35, scored the 15 extra runs he needed to overtake Lara's aggregate of 11,953 on day one of the second Test against Australia in Mohali.
Already the holder of a record 39 centuries in 151 Tests, Tendulkar hit the landmark runs off Peter Siddle.
A rapturous but sparse crowd in the Punjabi city stood to applaud him.
Afterwards, having been dismissed for 88 - and becoming the first man to 12,000 runs - he said: "It's definitely the biggest milestone because it's taken me 19 years to get - it's not something that can happen overnight.
"The journey has been fantastic. There have been ups and downs. So many times there have been stones thrown and you have to turn them into milestones.
"I knew I was 14 runs short [when Friday's innings started]. I have just been trying to focus on the game but whoever I see in front of me they have an opportunity to remind me. "I decided to keep it simple and keep watching the ball."
"Sachin is truly worthy of the mantle of the greatest run-scorer in Tests. I have been following his cricket and there is no doubt that he is a genius."

Sledging in Cricket

Traditionalists may not like the fact, but sledging in cricket is very much part of the modern game. Sledging is essentially insulting the opposition during the game in an attempt to distract them. It is most commonly used by either the bowler, wicket-keeper or other members of the fielding team to wind up the batsmen who is relatively isolated amongst opposition players.
The Australians are renowned as the inventors of sledging and are certainly the nation that introduced the practice to international cricket. Other nations have been slower to respond – the likes of India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan in particular initially resisted the trend but in more recent years have adopted the practice also.
The debate over sledging will doubtless continue. Some argue that it oversteps the mark of gamesmanship into a form of aggression that the game can do without, whilst others see it as an accepted and often entertaining part of competitive cricket. What is certain is some sledging insults will go down in cricket folklore.

Some of the Best Sledges:
Ricky Ponting & Shaun Pollock - After beating the bat with a couple of deliveries, Pollock told Ponting: "It's red, round & weighs about 5 ounces." Ponting hammered the next ball out of the ground and retorted: "You know what it looks like, now go find it."

Fred Trueman and Raman Subba Row– Fielder Subba Row let an edge off Trueman’s bowling slip through his legs. Fred didn't say a word initially but at the end of the over, Row approached Trueman and apologised sheepishly. "I should've kept my legs together, Fred". "So should your mother," he replied.

Merv Hughes & Javed Miandad - During 1991 Adelaide Test, Javed called Merv a fat bus conductor. Having dismissed Javed a few balls later Merv gleefully called out "Tickets please," as he ran past the departing batsman.

Daryll Cullinan & Shane Warne - As Cullinan strode out to bat, Warne told him he had been waiting two years for another chance to humiliate him. "Looks like you spent it eating," Cullinan replied.

Glenn McGrath - What does Brian Lara's dick taste like?
Ramanesh Sarwan - I don't know ask your wife
Glenn McGrath - You mention my f*cking wife again and i'll rip your f*cking throat out!

Inzaman Ul-Haq to Brett Lee - Stop bowling off-spinners.

Ian Healy trying to convince Ranatunga to leave his crease - Put a mars bar on a good length, that should do it!

Healy to Ranatunga: "Why are you so fat?"
Ranatunga in Reply: : "Because everytime i f**k your mum she gives me a cookie"

And of course you can't forget Ian Healy's legendary comment that was picked up by the Channel 9 microphones when Arjuna Ranatunga called for a runner on a particularly hot night during a one dayer in Sydney... "You don’t get a runner for being an overweight, unfit, fat c**t!!!"

MCC IDEAS 2008/9

“On behalf of the Executive Committee, I am writing to all members, senior players, parents and friends of the Club to seek your assistance and ideas. The Committee feels some type of celebration is warranted – but one which involves the community as a whole, not just our own people. In other words, we would like to highlight to the community at large our existence as one of friendliest clubs in the province.
We would appreciate any ideas (constructive, of course!) There is a prize for any idea adopted – the “glory” of being named as the nominator of the concept!

Yours in cricket
Zain/Ishaq
Chairperson/President

JACUES CLUELESS???

It's Friday afternoon.Time to wrap up a long week of hard work and look forward to a relaxed weekend. But not for a bunch of cricketers. The highlight of their week aint the moment a working week ends. Rather this occurs on a Saturday. it's that rush to get things done as soon as possible, while still keeping the sanity of their loved ones, and heading to the venue to fulfill the Saturday cricket fixture. Call it the flow of endorfins released in the brain, or just the passion these lads have for the game they love. They all have to admit, the match they so look forward is thoroughly enjoyed.
HOWEVER there comes a moment when they ponder if it's all worth it...the moment the batsman steps up to bat. Fiddling with his gear, walking up the crease, and even before he takes guard, a little chirp by the fielder in slip, followed by that loud mouth wicketkeeper with verbal diorreah. He is all alone now, team mates watching from the dressing room, and opposing team remarking non stop. The name of the game is cricket, and sledging is a big part of it. Playing with the psyche of the batsman, making him play a rash shot, drawing his attention to what is said and not what he needs to be doing. One lapse of concentration and you out! back in the dressing room. Give as good as you get!. We have some notable CHIRPERS within our ranks...so guys please leave comments bout the sledging you received, and even better, what you dished out!!

MAGICAL MARLBORO CRICKET CLUB RECORD SCORE OF 339 IN 40 OVER’S

Our openers got off to a slow start with constant loss of wickets putting strain on the middle order batsmen. But what a brilliant batting performance from the veteran Ashraf Rawat who scored 133 with superb shot selections all over the park. brilliant hooks, pulls, drives and some great boundaries.

A brilliant partnership between Archie & Safwaan took us to the magical figure of 339. Skipper Safwaan after being dropped early on by the opposing wicket keeper decided to bat sensibly with the advice of his senior batting partner Archie and with some excellent cuts, off drives & quick singles reached his first 70 for the club.

With the ball, Marlboro were disciplined and had a brilliant bowling spell from the bowlers. The opposition were already under pressure with a hugh total of 339 and with loss of early wickets they were literally dead in the water. Archie as always with his line & length added pressure on the opposition, with Moosa (Ganto) our own local mini maestro (Sachin) proving the most potent as he took his first 5 wicket haul for the team with figures of 5 - 45 runs from 7 over’s well done Ganto!!

Safwaan Salloo, Captain of the Marlboro Cricket Club said ‘Congrats guys and well done. Certainly one of my more memorable games at the club coz it was my first win as Captain. But what an awesome feeling it is when your team mates are encouraging you on, to carry on and do well…No selfishness no animosity just the Mohabit of a team & friends coming together for a great Saturday afternoon & enjoying themselves but also to win & be competitive…Wouldn’t give it up for anything….
Thanks guys for all your support…It’s an honor for me to be associated with the Marlboro Cricket Club.

SUPER SATURDAY AT MCG

It was Super Saturday at the Marlboro cricket ground with the 2007 league champions taking on the newly crowned 2008 league winners..and what a match it turned out to be. Newly wed Eboo loss the toss to Safwan who decided to bat first. It was a batting friendly wicket, with universal paints making its debut on our wicket. The openers Aadil and Irfan went cheaply, with Moms following, not playing his usual game. Then entered Moosa, dressed as the little maestro Sachin, who together with Archie played one of the best partnerships of the season. Moosa scoring a good 95, and Archie a patient 63. This set up a competitive total of 199/6. 1st teams reply started with a solid start from Zain and Kadwa, however regular loss of wickets hampered their chase. Finally finishing on 185 all out, a good win for the 2nd team. At the post match interviews, Farhad conceded that his team were off their best, and congratulated the winning team on a truly great performance. However the highlight of the day was the great spirit in which the game was played. MARLBORO CRICKET CLUB has made huge strides in recent times and its all thanks to all those associated with the club. A big thank you from the Executive committee for true committment from all players..ISHAQ
