MCC BABE OF THE WEEK 26/02/2011

Sorry bout the rain folks!

SA5 LOSE TO THE RUN RATE

If duckworth-lewis was in operation, it was a victory for MCC!

Rain intervened in a closely fought topsy turvy match between Marlboro and Roodepoort City.

Batting first MCC mustered 141 on a slowish home pitch depicting the Feroze Shah Kotla of few years back!

The chase by Roodepoort started slow, but were always behind the 8 ball. Wickets fell regularly, and after 19 overs in drizzle MCC were ahead on the rate. However in the 20th an inside edge and a slog both found the fence, and Rooodepoort just pipped it before the downpour.

Roodepoort finished on 78/4 in 20.4 overs, and won by 5 runs.

MCC BABE OF THE WEEK 19/02/2011

SA5 vs Bedfordview

The lack of blog articles is by no means the fault of the author, but rather lack of results going the way of MCC SA5, until the last fixture against Bedfordview!

Two losses back to back against Glenvista and Germiston, SA5 bounced back to clinch a tightly fought encounter. Batting first, opener Ebrahim Essop batted superbly in a fine innings, showing his class with a well played 88. Naushaad and Naeem Nathie chipped in sharing valuable partnerships with Eboo too.

Total set was 196 in 40 overs.

With rain looking a possibility Bedfordview started like a house on fire racing to 67/0 in 12 overs. However a good all round bowling performance and tight fielding restricted the hosts to 181 all out.

Incident of the match: Mayoor bowled a bowl wide outside the leg-stump, and was taken by wicketkeeper Ishaq. The opener presumed the ball had passed the wickie, and with a quick yell of YES set out for a run, leaving Ishaq to whip off the bails!

Eboo was named Man of the Match and is looking quite good heading into the business end of the season.
