The writing was in the clouds !
SA 7 embarked on the penultimate match of 2012 against old parks. Under heavy skies the conditions were ideal for some swing bowling and the opening pair of Captain Safu and Sunir “Movember” Goven took full advantage of the favourable conditions in the 1st spell of bowling, however with some rain interruption and an on field drinks break, concentration levels seemed to drop and Old parks posted a total of 200.
With more rain on the horizon we set about chasing down the runs, after 7 overs there was another rain interruption and this led to the total being revised to 150 in 30 overs.Baker took a blow to the temple from a beemer which left a nice CHERRY on his temple, but the batsmen made heavy weather of the batting and in the end we lost by 23 runs.
We move on the the final fixture of 2012 knowing that some hard works needs to be put in to move on and get back to winning ways

Operation Masala Desert
The SA 7 team made the long journey to Lenz (The Masala Desert) this past weekend to take on log leaders Azad Swaraj Sporting.
The game got of to a lively start with lots of variation in the wicket and some GREAT bowling from the opening bowlers.Azad Swaraj were restricted to 29 runs for 4 wickets in the 1st twenty overs, however some sloppy fielding and dropped catches after the drinks interval allowed our host to post a total of 133.
Opening batsmen Baker and Farhaan set about the task of building a foundation for victory with other batsment chipping in.
We reached 59 for 4 at the drinks break. With a further 79 to get Captain Safu stepped up to the crease and shared a match winning partnership with Sunir, with other batmens chipping in as well.
The SA 7 team won the game by 3 wickets at the end and Sunir Goven & Captain Safu shared the men of the match award for their combined efforts with both bat and ball

MCC SA6 MARCH TO THE TOP OF THE LEAGUE
MCC SA6 continued on their excellent run with a 9 run victory over Bedfordview, and in so doing moved to joint top spot on the table.
Batting first once more MCC scored 232, Vawda top scoring with 52. Nasief held the innings together towards the end with a well batted 36*
Bedfordview were always behind the 8-ball, and with the time factor coming into play MCC introduced spin to rush through few overs. This gave Bedfordview a glimpse, but a brilliant all round performance and great team spirit pulled through for MCC at the end.
Vawda claimed the Man of the Match award for his all round effort, 52* with the bat, 2wickets with the ball, and i hope not for running Eboo out too!!!

We Thought the storm had passed !!!
As the clouds lifted over Joburg and the sun shone down on Saturday, the SA7 team where ready to take the field again.
The wicket at the Marlboro Cricket Grounds (MCG) was green like a mamba and it looked like we were in for a good day of cricket.
Captain Safu lost the toss and the SA7 team were put in to bat. After a Lively start from Jaydeep with Avi on the other end rotating the strike, it looked like we might go on to set a formidable total to defend, however it was not to be and the remaining batsmen made heavy weather of the bowling.
Being set a minimal total to defend, the bowlers set about the task of trying to unsettle the opposition. Some consistent and accurate bowling gave the team some hope but the score set was not very defendable.
Some serious discussions took place after the game and all players agreed that we need to step on the gas and get back to winning ways.

Against Old Parks batting first, MCC mustered 283 in the allotted overs. Naeem Nathie top scoring with 67*.
Captain Shaheen Vawda also notched up his half century, with good supporting roles by Eboo 44* and Mambo 37.
Old Parks replied with 220.
During the latest encounter vs Mavericks, batting first MCC scored 200 and had the aging opposition at 40/2 in 10 overs before the heavens opened up. Points shared.
Nasir scored a quickfire 44 in 18 deliveries before getting caught on the fence with a brilliant catch low down.
Chirp of the week: Aadil Seedat telling the opposing batsman he seen a better block in a box of LEGO!!!
Upcoming fixture for the first XI is against Delfos at Cecil Payne.

THE MAVERICK NAEEM NATHIE SHINES
The SA7 team played G&M Mavericks at the Lenz Tech grounds this past Saturday. Being a home fixture and due to the burst water pipe the fixture was played in Lenz.
After a bit of a delay from our stand in wicketkeeper, we left Marlboro and caught up with the SA8 team who seem to have thought they were playing in Cape Town rather than Lenz.
The toss was conducted and yet again, I lost and we were asked to field. We started of pretty tight with the bowling between Naeem Nathie and myself.
During the middle of the innings we seem to have lost our concentration and with one bad ball an over the opposition were away and ending on 251 after 38 over’s and with 2 penalty over’s, set a target of 271.
Bowling Figures...
Naeem Nathie 8-48-5
Labib 5-26-1
Sunir 8-46-0
Avi 1-14-0
Mayur 3-35-0
Hamza 7-61-1
Safwaan 5-19-0
With yet another hefty total ahead of us and the advantage of playing only 8 fieldsman. The SA7 team started off with a positive attitude and a REAL game plan in mind. Super sub Naeem Natie after his fantastic 5 wicket haul opened the batting with the every energetic mouth piece of Marlboro Cricket Club, Labib.
The pair started off nice and easy and settled in nicely when then Labib was caught in yet another soft dismissal on a score of 26. Sa7 51/1 after the 12th over. In at 1 down our hero of the Sunday side, Jaydeep walks in. With our super sub the pair were in their stride settling in nicely and after 20 over’s were 128/1. Game plan working.
However shortly thereafter Jaydeep was caught of the bowling of Raymond with a well played 44. In walks in our blast from the past, one of the senior players of the team in age, Noey. Started off easy but once he got going it was almost impossible to stop, but alas 2 runs short of his 50. Noey scored a superb 48. Well played old man, tighten that back brace mate
With time running out and calculations being made it was impossible for us to lose...Game Plan....Eventually in the 35th over with light fading quickly Super Sub Naeem Nathie scored a awesome 107 Not out to take SA7 to a subliminal total of 262 and 50 penalty runs to win the game.
It was poetry in motion.Even thou we played a team with 8 players we gave them nothing. Our batsmen played a near flawless innings and was the biggest run chase that I have experienced at the Marlboro Cricket Club.
Well done Boy’s...
Batting Figures...
Labib Adam 26(35)
Naeem Nathie 107*(105)
Jaydeep Patel 44(24)
Naushaad Khan 48(31

A PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS
Now what might go through the Little Master's mind just before delivery?
I am always on the hunt for other people's inspiration.
Come on lads, comment with a caption for this pic....
SA7 Slashed in the Sun
The opening of the cricket Season brought along a long day in the field for
SA 7. The drive all the way to Kibler Park on the south seemed to have taken
its toll on the players and we started off with being wacked all over the
park.
The opening batsman looked like he drank a case of Red bull before the game
and smashed our bowlers for countless boundaries. Fetching the ball all the
time cost us time and the opposition got 60 penalty runs in the end.
With a MASSIVE target of 332 to chase the SA7 team set about trying to get
the runs. Hamza Bhai contributed with 40 runs and some decent bowling wich
earned him the man of the match.
Not much else to say but we learnt some valuable lessons from this game.
Going forward we look to improve and enjoy our game

MCC SA6 LOSES TO WITS
Marlboro Cricket Club SA6 began the new season with a loss to Wits at the Marlboro Stadium. Wits posted 304, with 60 penalty runs. MCC responded with 157 ALL OUT.
A terrible start to the season, with 3 players filling in for the first fixture.
The home wicket played quite well for the first home fixture. SA6 will need to up their game drastically if they are to chase for honours this season

MCC SA8 BEGIN WITH A WIN
The SA8 team played their first game on Saturday last weekend. As we were playing in Allenglen, the team met at the ground at around 11.30 and departed to the ground.
The opposition we played against was Kwateng, a team that in the previous year was in SA6 but has since been demoted. The opposition, in all honesty were a very good bunch of guys with the entire game played in the true spirit of cricket without any issues.
Kwateng decided to bat first and put a total of 254 in the 34 overs. Our ability not to complete our overs in the allotted timeframe cost the team 6 overs/60 runs, which put the final total of 315 to chase.
Key bowling figures:-
Zameer 3/21/0
Ziyaad 3/35/1
Mambo 7/28/0
Aslam 7/28/0
Ali 3/25/0
Nathie 5/35/0
Our team managed to chase down the total in 37 overs with 8 wickets down. Batting figures in order:-
Mambo 14
Ace 1
Zaks 47
Aslam 22
Ziyaad 29
Ali 135 n.o
Patrou 10
Kadwa 5
Zameer 37 n.o
Patel DNB
Nathie DNB
Key focus areas:-
Fielding: We dropped 4/5 catches and were generally lethargic on the filed (Given that it was extremely hot)
Time Management: We did not complete our overs in the allotted time, giving us a total of 315 with 60 penalty runs
Bowling: Too many extras conceded
Key wins:- Morale: The team had a positive approach during the game led by the continuously mentoring by the captain
Confidence: The team were confident in our chasing ability and the belief we could win the game.
Unity: The team displayed good team spirit despite us being hammered during our bowling.
Thanks to Ali for a wonderful synopsis of the game.

THE MCC WICKET FOR THE SEASON
The cricketing wicket is looking exceptionally good going into the first game of the season, with plenty work been put in by our very own Rashaad Rawat.
Welcome to the New Season
The Executive Committee of Marlboro Cricket Club would like welcome back all players to what is building up as being an exciting season of cricket.
Training has begun in early September and the boys are set and raring to go.
The format for the Saturday Leagues has reverted back to the 40 over format only over two rounds, home and away. This is good news as MCC seemed to find it difficult in the shorter form of the game.
At the AGM held prior to the season, a new executive team has been nominated. The new committee is as follows:
CHAIRMAN: RASHAAD RAWAT
VICE CHAIRMAN: SHAHEEN VAWDA
SECRETARY: ISHAQ ISMAIL
TREASURER: SAFWAAN SALLOO
CO-OP MEMBER: AVINASH GOVEN
CO-OP MEMBER: NAEEM NATHIE
CO-OP MEMBER: ALI (NON SOUTH AFRICAN MEMBER!)
CAPTAIN SA6: EBRAHIM ESSOP
CAPTAIN SA7: SAFWAAN SALLOO
CAPTAIN SA8: ZIYAAD JOGEE
We would like to extend our warmest gratitude to outgoing chairman Zain Asmal, for his sterling work and dedication offered to the club during his tenure. The club has grown to its largest during this period and has left the club in good standing ging forward. However he is and always will be associated with club and will assist in an administrative level.
First league fixtures begin for all teams this weekend, 6th October. Teams are affiliated in the Saturday Six, Seven and Eight Leagues, with Sunday represented in the Five Limited overs format.
Heres wishing one and all a successful season with bat and ball, and perhaps some silverware to go with it at the end of the season.
